  • The folks at @createwow ask: Can you name one local brand?

    / Comments (0)

Last week we hit the streets with our office Ron Burgundy. We wanted to know a few simple things from the people of Des Moines. We were on a mission to find out what would happen if we asked people simple questions about branding and marketing. We wanted to know the true thoughts and feelings of other members of our great city.

Could they name a local brand(s)?
What was the biggest brand they could think of
Are there any brands they associate with?
    What makes them say WOW?

They couldn’t think of any of them. Apart from the dozen or so large brands, there are another dozen plus that easily come to our minds.

How many marketing agencies are there in Des Moines anyway? Seems like a lot of them are not doing a great job, but that’s just our opinion.

  • Really cool engraved Harry Potter covers

    / Comments (0)

    Via Creative Review:

Andrew Davidson has produced a beautifully detailed set of hand engraved illustrations for the cover of adult editions of JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels.

Davidson was commissioned by Bloomsbury, who will publish the series and Webb & Webb, who are designing the covers.

“I wanted them to look as if they had come straight from the pages of a book taken from the library at Hogwarts [the boarding school for wizard's where the books are set].”
The finished book covers will look something like this, and will be on sale in September.

From the wonderful book You Are Now Less Dumb:

The Misconception: You procrastinate because you are lazy and can’t manage your time well.

The Truth: Procrastination is fueled by weakness in the face of impulse and a failure to think about thinking.

There's a whole post with gems like this, right over here.

  • Are you in a slump? Why summer makes us so unproductive.

    Via Fast Company:

Research suggests at least three options:

we'd rather be doing other, more summer-y things,
    the humidity makes us stupid,
the heat makes us feel good, which makes us stupid

Yeah, us too. The article doesn't offer any solutions, so let's just call in sick until Labor Day passes.
